Diwun Black dismissed from Florida and will enter transfer portal

Gator Country confirmed that junior linebacker Diwun Black has been removed from the Florida football team and will enter the transfer portal.

“I have officially enter(ed) the transfer portal,” Black posted to Twitter on Wednesday afternoon.

The #1 rated JUCO prospect signed with Florida out of high school before having to go the community college route. Black has played sparingly since arriving in Gainesville, logging just 16 snaps in the 2022 season. Black found himself buried on the depth chart behind true freshman Shemar James and redshirt freshman Scooby Williams. Black appeared in four games this season, primarily on special teams. Black suffered an injury late in the game against Eastern Washington, keeping him off the depth chart until recently. He was back on the depth chart in week 11 against South Carolina but didn’t see the field.

Black has been removed from Florida’s official roster. He becomes the 2nd Gators’ defender dismissed from the program this season.

Shortly after this announcement, Griffin McDowell announced that he will enter the transfer portal. McDowell has spent five years with the Florida Gators, playing multiple positions and contributing on special teams.

Diwun Black and Griffin McDowell mark the 7th and 8th transfers/ dismissals from the Florida Gators this season.
