On Saturday, the Florida Gators hosted dozens of recruits on campus for the Miami game to start off the 2024 season.
Auburn offensive line commit Tavaris Dice (6-4, 295, Fairburn, GA. Langston Hughes) was one of those guys on campus and he liked the atmosphere for his first game in the Swamp.
“This was my first game, the atmosphere was great,” Dice said of Saturday’s game against Miami. “Florida put up a fight to a certain extent, I feel like what they displayed today was good but at the same time every team has little things they have to work on. Overall it was a good game by both teams.”
The Gators have been fighting to flip Dice for months now and he says that Saturday’s game didn’t change much in his mind as he wants to see how the Gators rebound going forward.
“I’m going to give them some time to see what’s up,” he said on his thoughts on Florida after the game. “Obviously the best teams may not lose but every team they have up’s and down’s. Florida is still building, they just got Coach Napier not too long ago. All of these rumors that he may not be here, nobody knows really. At the same time, I still love Florida because they show me the same love.”
Before the game on Saturday, Dice had the chance to talk to several coaches including offensive line coach Rob Sale.
“I talked to them earlier,” Dice said on talking to the coaches. “They were asking me how my season was going and I was asking them how the offensive line was looking and stuff. What they showed today was decent.”
Dice watched the game from the endzone and he noticed some weak spots for the Gators’ offensive line but he believes in what the coaches are teaching the players.
“What the coaches told me, they have groups that they switch out, they have their 1 and 2 groups,” he said on what the coaches said about the line. “Really the left tackle and right tackle, it looks like a tough spot right now, the quarterback walked off the field today and that’s not a good look because you want to protect your quarterback no matter what. Seeing that, it really didn’t put a good look on what the coaches have been telling me about the work they’ve been putting in. I believe in the coaches though because I’ve been to a practice, and I’ve seen the technique.”
After the visit, Dice says he remains solid with the Tigers but may return to Florida for another visit.
“It’s really just Florida that’s still fighting,” Dice said on other schools still in the mix for him. “I’m still locked in with Auburn. I might come back for a night game.
