Dexter Williams impressed by the Swamp

On Saturday the Florida Gators hosted three prospects that are or previously were a Miami commit for its game against the Kentucky Wildcats.

One of those Miami commits in attendance was running back Dexter Williams (5-11, 195, Orlando, FL West Orange) who has visited Florida twice since July but this was the first time for him to see a game in the Swamp this fall.

“The visit overall was great I got to experience what the Swamp has to offer on game day,” Williams said. “My favorite part of the visit was being able to get a chance to talk to the players and get to see them play against a good team. The atmosphere was great the fans were going crazy and hype!”

This was also Williams’ first time to see Kurt Roper’s offense in a live game situation and he left impressed by how he handled the running backs.

“The running backs were good and they showed that they rotate the backs a lot and just let them make plays,” Williams said. “I think I could get on the field early if I came in and worked hard and learned the playbook.”

This won’t be the last time that Florida gets the chance to impress the Miami commit as he plans to return to Gainesville for the next home game.

“I will be back in the Swamp when they play LSU,” Williams said. “Coach [Brian] White was telling me that he wants me to keep coming back for visits and not to forget about them. Coach White told me he needs me in the Swamp and he wants me to be a Gator.”

With all of the visits to Florida and the Canes having three running back commits already where does Williams stand with Miami?

“My status with Miami is still good,” Williams said. “I am still going through the process with them and just enjoying everything and just watching to see how the season plays out.  My family is behind me and letting me make my own decisions because they say it’s my future and I have to live it wherever I’m at for the next four years.”

INSIDER TAKE: Williams continues to say the right things and I think he truly does like Miami but I do know that Florida has given him something to think about and as along as he continues to visit them the Florida Gators have a chance. If the Gators continue using the running backs a lot then I could Williams wanting to be a part of that.

    • He’s more of KT back in that he has good speed and vision. He’s a physical as well but not like Matt Jones. IMO Williams is a perfect fit for the zone read and zone plays that Florida runs.
