Dexter sees a dream come true with his commitment to Florida

The Florida Gators picked up two commitments on Saturday from guys who were in the Swamp to watch the homecoming game.

2020 defensive end Gervon Dexter (6-6, 260, Lake Wales, FL. High) committed to Florida on Saturday just a week after he received an offer from Dan Mullen.

“After I talked with my dad and coach I decided to go ahead and commit,” Dexter said on his commitment to Florida. “Florida just felt a lot like my high school, even the coaches talking to my parents, it just felt a lot like home. I was very comfortable and something my dad said to me earlier. My dad is a big Florida State fan, he likes Florida State and he said ‘you know if I say I like Florida then you know I like Florida’ so I liked that.”

Dexter who grew up rooting for the Orange and Blue says Saturday was a special feeling when he committed.

“It’s a dream come true, UF has always been my dream school,” he said on his feeling after he committed to Florida. “It’s just a dream come true. It feels great to be committed.”

While on campus on Saturday, Dexter spoke to several different coaches including defensive line coach Sal Sunseri who joked about needing the 2020 end on Saturday.

“I talked to Coach Mullen, Coach Sal [Sunseri] and Coach [Larry] Scott,” he said on the coaches he talked to while on campus on Saturday. “Coach Sal kept making a joke that he wished he could use me today [Saturday].

Mullen also spoke to Dexter about where the Gators see him playing once he arrives in Gainesville in 2020.

“Coach Mullen loves my length and speed,” Dexter said on what Mullen likes about his game. “Right now I’m helping my team at defensive tackle but he knows what I can do at defensive end. He knows that I’m a defensive end.”

Dexter watched the Florida defense closely on Saturday and he was focused on one player in particular.

“Number 99 [Jachai Polite] I like to watch him and I like how he gets around the corner,” he said on his thoughts on the Florida defense. “The whole game I was watching him. I love how the ends stand up some times, that’s what I love.”

Now that Dexter has committed to Florida, he plans to help the 2020 class get as many guys as possible.

“I’m going to get on Leonard Manuel tonight,” Dexter said on if he plans to start recruiting others to Florida. “I’m going to recruit as many as guys as I can.”
