Dexter says “loyalty” kept him solid with the Florida Gators

Six of the nine official visitors this past weekend were Florida Gators commits so those guys were able to help the coaches recruit the other guys to the class.

Defensive line commit Gervon Dexter 6-6, 286, Lake Wales, FL. High) was one of those commits on campus this weekend.

“Really this weekend was more relaxed,” Dexter said on the mood on his official visit. “I’m already committed and solid, so I’m helping in recruiting.”

Dexter had the chance to hang out with several other defensive tackles during the visit and he thinks a few of those guys will be joining the class this coming week.

“They cool,” he said on hanging out with the other defensive tackles on visits. “It’s going to be different, this defensive line is going to different and we have a lot of guys here that are going to be signing on Wednesday.”

Alabama defensive tackle commit Tim Smith was the biggest target on campus and Dexter thinks the Gators have a good shot with the Alabama commit.

“Tim [Smith] is real cool, that’s my boy,” Dexter said on recruiting Tim Smith over the weekend. “We’re going to see on Wednesday, I’m thinking 60/40 Florida. I’m just telling them to look at how many seniors are leaving at their position and just come in and make an impact early.”

Despite Dexter being committed to Florida since November of last year, other schools have tried to get the Gators commit on campus but he says a few things played into why he didn’t take other visits.

“I’m just big on loyalty,” he said on why he stayed committed to Florida and didn’t visit other schools. “I’m right here in Florida so there was no need for me to go out to Alabama or Georgia when I can get the same thing at Florida.”

Dexter says with other schools still recruiting him everyday that the recruiting process has been a stressful one but he remained solid with Florida.

“It has been a long process because coaches were still calling me everyday,” Dexter said on his recruiting process. “They were texting me everyday but it has been a hard process for me to just stay locked in.”

Next up for Dexter will be him putting pen to paper and signing with the Gators this coming week.

“I’m signing on Wednesday, my ceremony is at 12:30 but I’m signing as soon as I wake up at 7:00 A.M.,” he said on his plans for Wednesday. “I’m going to be coming to school for summer A.”
