Defensive tackle Chris Thomas Jr. has entered the transfer portal

Gator Country has learned that defensive tackle Chris Thomas Jr. has entered the transfer portal.

Thomas Jr. took to social media on Wednesday afternoon to announce his decision.

“First off I would like to thank Dan Mullen, Billy Napier, and their staff for molding me into a better player and person. I have had a great time being a part of Gator Nation but with that being said I’ve decided to enter my name in the transfer portal with three years of eligibility left,” Thomas Jr. wrote on a Twitter graphic.

This is the 2nd time Thomas Jr has entered the transfer portal; He entered the portal on June 28th of 2022 before deciding to return to Florida.

The Tallahassee native played high school ball at Dunbar in Fort Myers and was a member of Florida’s 2021 recruiting class.

The 6-5, 314-pound defensive tackle played in just two games in his two years at Florida. His first appearance was in the Gasparilla Bowl against UCF and his 2nd was in against Eastern Washington in 2022, where he recorded his only career tackle.

Thomas Jr. logged a total of six defensive snaps this season.

The redshirt freshman will have three years of eligibility at his next stop.

This marks the 29th scholarship departure from the 2022 roster (eligibility, transfer, dismissal). Thomas Jr. is the 11th departure from Dan Mullen’s 2021 recruiting class (11-22).
