DB Avery Helm to enter the transfer portal

Gator Country has confirmed with two sources that defensive back Avery Helm plans to enter the transfer portal on December 5th.

Helm was a consensus four-star recruit and a member of the 2020 recruiting class. He redshirted his first year in Gainesville, making his college debut against Oklahoma in the Cotton Bowl. In 2021, Helm started in nine games for the Gators, appearing in 11 total games.

This season Helm found himself a part of a crowded defensive back room. He started the first four games while Jaydon Hill was working his way back from an injury but found himself buried on the depth chart as the season progressed.

Helm logged 280 snaps this season, which is less than Jason Marshall, Jaydon Hill, and Tre’vez Johnson. Helm did not appear in the Gators’ final game against FSU.

The speedy cornerback totaled 31 tackles (21 solo) and four pass deflections in 22 games played throughout his three years at Florida.

The sophomore has three years of eligibility left.
