Davis wants to be a part of DBU

Saturday was a match-up of two schools that calls itself DBU but it was the Florida Gators that came out on top against LSU.

2020 defensive back Fred Davis (6-2, 177, Jacksonville, FL. Trinity Christian) was on hand and liked what he saw from the Gators and he says he knows who the real DBU is now.

“Clutch pick six, really get the game winner,” Davis said on the play of the defensive backs. “Florida is definitely DBU.”

Davis paid close attention to not only the defensive backs but the defense in general and he liked how they played against LSU.

“Their play overall was very good,” he said of the play of the defense. “There was some up’s and down’s but that’s going to happen with any football team. They’ve been playing very good lately.”

While on campus on Saturday, Davis spoke at length with defensive backs coach Charlton Warren and the coach had a message for the 2020 defensive back.

“That I can be in the next secondary,” Davis said of Warren’s message to him. “I can be a part of DBU and I can see myself coming here.”

The message about DBU is something that Davis likes to hear and something he wants to be apart of one day.

“Oh for sure,” he said on if the DBU title Florida means something to him. “I had a coach, Gus Scott he was a Gator and he’s been talking to me a little bit. It means a lot because I want to be a part of DBU because I’m a DB. They’ve been having some NFL picks at defensive back.”

Early on in the process, Davis has visited Florida several times and he explained why he visits and what he likes about the Gators.

“It’s close to home and the atmosphere is crazy,” he said of what he likes about Florida. “That plays a big role too and how Coach Warren is doing with his defensive backs. I like his coaching style.”

Davis who has offers from just about every top school in the country said that Florida is a school he holds in high regards.

“In my top, all my schools are really up there but Florida is definitely up in my top group,” Davis said of where Florida stands in his recruitment. “Everything about Florida is just great. Coach Dan Mullen texts me almost everyday.”

The Gators aren’t the only school hitting up Davis on a daily basis as several other SEC schools are after him.

“Florida, Miami, Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State, Oklahoma, LSU and really the top SEC schools,” he said on schools talking to him a lot.

INSIDERS TAKE: Davis is one of the Gators top targets and Florida has positioned itself well early on. Miami is a team to watch as well.
