Davis declares for draft

UF running back Malik Davis will enter the NFL Draft, he announced late on Tuesday night.

Though he was listed as a redshirt senior on the 2021 roster, he had another season of eligibility available to him due to the NCAA’s decision to not count the pandemic-affected 2020 season against players’ eligibility.

The Tampa native finishes his college career with 284 carries for 1,470 yards and eight touchdowns. He also caught 70 passes for 726 yards and two scores.

Davis burst onto the scene right away as a freshman in 2017. He led the team with 526 yards on 79 carries through seven games. He ran for at least 90 yards in five consecutive games at one point, highlighted by 124 yards and two touchdowns against Vanderbilt.

However, he suffered a season-ending foot injury against Georgia.

He recovered in time for the start of the 2018 season, but he suffered a season-ending knee injury in week three.

Davis was a nonfactor in 2019, as he didn’t seem to have the same quickness and elusiveness that made him a freshman standout.

He enjoyed a nice 2020 season as a receiver out of the backfield, catching 31 passes for 377 yards. He made five receptions for 100 yards in the win over Georgia.

He became much more involved in the offense in his final season, carrying the ball 92 times for 487 yards and five touchdowns. He caught 23 passes for 217 yards and two scores. He turned in the only 100-yard game by a Gator running back all season when he rushed for 104 yards in the opener against Florida Atlantic.
