Dan Mullen notebook from Florida Gators press conference: 8/23

Florida Gators head coach Dan Mullen spoke to the media on Thursday to discuss how fall camp is going for the Gators as classes started on Wednesday for the team.

Mullen talked about several things including the latest on competition at several positions and what the staff is looking for the next days of practice.

GatorCountry brings you a quick notebook to break down what Mullen had to say about the team here.

Here’s what he said:

  • Thursday is the last practice of training camp as Friday is a mock game before they transition into game week.
  • During the mock game, the team will go through all procedural things. When to go out for stretching, when to get dressed and where to stand on the sidelines, etc.
  • After Thursday practice, Mullen says he will sit down with Brian Johnson and figure out which quarterback gives them the best opportunity to win games.
  • Mullen says that he has an idea of which quarterback is leading but still some things he wants to see. He says they will have a starter going into game week.
  • Punter and placekicker are two position battles still up for grabs but he says there are a lot of depth battles going on to see who is game ready.
  • When Mullen was asked if he’s comfortable with the team and quarterback he says he’s and that’s all he’s got and he’s all the guys have got.
  • The punt team eats first and says being on punt team was a big reason for the two scholarships given out this week.
  • Mullen says if you can dominate special teams then you only have to dominate offense or defense to win the game.
  • 3-0 or 51-50 either one Mullen says he’s good with. He just wants to win and says the team will sing the alma mater no matter the score.
  • Mullen didn’t talk about injuries as he says they’ve all been reported so he doesn’t need to talk about them.
