The Florida Gators had a huge win on the field on Saturday, and they also picked up a big commitment off the field before the game.
2028 defensive back Cyion Smith (6-3, 160, Blountstown, FL. High) committed to the Florida Gators over Auburn and Mississippi State on Saturday.
“I’m home,” Smith said when announcing his commitment.
Smith says the relationship he has with head coach Jon Sumrall; defensive coordinator Brad White and the rest of the staff was a big reason he committed to Florida.
“It’s big, you know the relationship started back in the summer when I came for my first time to Florida,” Smith said. “Ever since then we’ve been talking, they tell me everyday that I’m a top priority and I have to take advantage of it.”
The atmosphere in the Swamp also impressed Smith on Saturday as he called it the best atmosphere he has seen.
“That was crazy, it was the craziest environment I’ve been a part of,” Smith said of the atmosphere in the Swamp on Saturday. “I loved the locker room after the game, everyone having fun.”
While watching the game, Smith was impressed by the Gators’ defense and one safety in particular who had a big game against Ole Miss.
“The defense, it just feels like the song says, “won’t back down”,” he said of Florida’s defense. “You know everything, we bend but don’t break. I love the way the defense played today [Saturday] especially the defensive backs. I love how physical number 33 [DJ Coleman] is. He sets the tone for the safety group, and you know he plays downhill. I love how those guys play.”
After committing to Florida on Saturday, Smith has already started recruiting others to join him in Gainesville.
“Yeah, I talked to Izaiah Vickers, Bubba Brown, and Brysen Wright,” Smith said on recruiting others to join him. “Telling them about the Gators.”
