Cozart has a “perfect” visit with the Florida Gators

When the NCAA dead period was lifted on June 1st, Gainesville was loaded with top prospects in town that Tuesday for the Florida Gators cookout.

2023 receiver Ashton Cozart (6-2, 175, Flower Mound, TX. Marcus) was one of those guys on campus and the visit was more than he expected.

“It feels great, this was actually my first ever college visit,” Cozart said of his Florida visit on June 1st. “I was really shocked because this is nothing I’ve ever seen before. I was just shocked; I had a great conversation with a lot of the coaches and the vibe I get here is perfect. I really love Florida.”

Florida was the first school to ever get Cozart on campus and the receiver says it was a decision that he was glad he made.

“The night they offered me, they talked about they had junior day on June 1st and they wanted me to come,” he said on why Florida was his first visit. “As soon as they said that, it was just perfect, this is a great school to come to and I was excited that this was my first visit.”

Receivers coach Billy Gonzales spent a lot of time with Cozart during the visit and explained to him how the Gators can get the most out of the receiver.

“He’s talking about building a better relationship,” Cozart said on the message from Gonzales. “He’s talking about things that he can help me do to help better my game as a receiver and he answered the questions I had on the school. He asked about my family and how my offseason was going.”

Gonzales also explained to Cozart earlier this month just what the Gators like about his game.

“He likes how versatile I am as a receiver, people think of me as just a tall big body receiver, but I can really move,” he said on what Gonzales likes about his game. “He said that my game is perfect for the type of receivers Florida wants.”

After visiting Florida, Cozart says a few things caught his attention but one thing, in particular, has him excited about the Gators’ offense.

“The one thing that definitely stands out to me is how every single play a single receiver has multiple routes depending on what the defense plays,” Cozart said on what stands out to him about Florida. “You have multiple chances to get open in different ways. I love that.”

Quarterback commit Nick Evers is close with Cozart and has been talking to the receiver about the Gators.

“I play 7-on-7 with him so as soon he saw that I got the offer, that’s all he has talked about,” he said on Nick Evers recruiting him. “He talks to me every day about Florida, after the visit I’m definitely going to talk to him more about Florida.”

Next up for Cozart will be several other visits but the 2023 receiver says returning to Gainesville is a priority.

“Oh absolutely, after this I’m going to definitely get back,” Cozart said on visiting Florida again.
