Corey Collier commits to the Florida Gators over LSU and Miami

The Florida Gators picked up a huge commitment on Monday from one of their top remaining targets on the board for 2021.

Defensive back Corey Collier (6-2, 170, Miami, FL. Palmetto) committed to Florida over Miami and LSU on Monday.

“For the next three to four years, I’ll be taking my talents to the University of Florida,” Collier said.

Collier says that two reasons in particular are what convinced him that Florida was the school he should commit to.

“The coaching staff was a big reason I committed to Florida,” Collier said on why he committed to Florida. “And I have the chance to get early playing time at Florida.”

The safety says that safeties coach Ron English has been the main guy with a message for Collier about how he will fit into Florida’s defense.

“I’ve been talking to Coach English the most and he thinks that I will fit in great for them,” Collier said. “He told me that I will play strong safety roaming around in the back and coming down and all of that stuff.”

Collier admits that his teammate Jason Marshall was recruiting him to join him in Gainesville but he also had teammates pushing him towards the local Canes.

“A little bit,” he said on if Jason Marshall helped sway him to Florida. “My teammates at Miami were trying too.”

The Gators hosted Collier on campus more than any other school and that’s a big reason that the defensive back committed to the Gators as the last visit Collier took was to Gainesville for junior day in March.

Collier is the 25th commitment in the Class of 2021 for the Gators and is the fifth defensive back commitment in the class joining Kamar Wilcoxson, Jason Marshall, Jordan Young and Donovan McMillon in the class.

Now that Collier and Marshall are committed to the Gators, the coaching staff hopes that his commitment can help Florida with their Palmetto teammate Leonard Taylor who committed to Miami last week.
