Billy Napier hosted his first group of official visitors this weekend in Gainesville, and it included one of the Gators’ long commits.
Offensive line commit David Conner (6-6, 270, Deerfield Beach, FL. High) was on campus and enjoyed the new coaching staff as well as hanging out with the players.
“It was good, I got to meet all of the new coaching staff and stuff,” Conner said of his official visit to Florida. “Got to hang out with the players, it was fun. Richie Leonard was my host, they told me to keep my head on straight and we got to hang out with them at their crib.”
Conner was impressed by Coach Napier, and he liked the energy that was around the program this weekend.
“It was a great vibe,” he said on his impressions on the coaching staff. “They all greeted us at the hotel and introduced themselves. It was a great bonding time; Coach Napier is a great dude. I’m excited to get started with them.”
New offensive line coach Darnell Stapleton spoke at length with Conner about his vision for him and how he can get him to the next level.
“He’s going to develop me, and he really wants to work with me,” Conner said on the message from Stapleton. “He’s excited to have me a part of the team. It’s great to have him here, I know he knows what it takes to get to where he was. It’s great to have somebody like that.”
Napier also explained to Conner this weekend on how he plans to run the Gators’ program and what to expect.
“He’s starting from scratch,” he said on the message from Napier on his vision for the program. “He’s going to run it like he always does, he’s going to develop his players into great players and we’re going to win.”
Stapleton was announced on Friday as assistant offensive line coach and Napier told Conner this weekend who would be joining him in Gainesville.
“He’s coming from the NFL,” Conner said on what Napier told him about the other offensive line coach coming.
Now that Conner has met everyone, he says his decision is final and plans to sign with the Gators on Wednesday.
“Oh yeah for sure, I have my papers and everything,” he said on if this made him solid to Florida. “I’m early enrolling too.”
