Collins recruiting others to join him in Gainesville with the Florida Gators

Last weekend, the Florida Gators hosted several of their commits on campus for the LSU game as they were able to help recruit other guys to join them in the class.

Defensive line commit Kelby Collins (6-5, 280, Gardendale, AL. High) was on campus and liked the atmosphere inside in the Swamp.

“The visit went well,” Collins said. “I connected with some more of the recruits and the new commits. I think everything went well. The atmosphere was crazy, I think the little meter scale hit like 104 one time. It was super loud even when we were down. They didn’t give up and the team didn’t give up.”

Collins watched the Gators’ defense closely and he sees a chance to play early in Gainesville next year.

“I see an opportunity but that’s just me being a competitor,” he said on if he sees early playing time. “I feel like they did a good job of pressuring and I feel like this class is recruiting a lot of defensive linemen and we’re just going to help build on that pressure and help build this defensive line and defense. The defense starts on the defensive line because when we get pressure it causes picks.”

Defensive line coach Sean Spencer continues to recruit Collins hard despite him being committed and he wants the Alabama native to help get others in the class.

“He just really wants me to recruit some of the other defensive line guys,” Collins said on the message from Chaos to him. “He’s trying to get some more guys and he’s just excited to have me and coach me.”

When Collins is recruiting other guys to Gainesville, the defensive lineman has a simple message as to why Florida is the place to be.

“I’m telling them to stay home or come down here because we’re building something special,” he said on his message to other defensive linemen. “With the two defensive backs I told them we’re building something special, and I told them again and they feel me on that. Right now, we’re just trying to get Cormani [McClain] and that will top the defensive back class. We just need a couple of more pieces.”

Next up for Collins will be another visit to watch the Gators but an official visit to the instate Crimson Tide is still a possibility going forward.

“I’m probably going to take it for the Iron Bowl,” Collins said on if he will take an official to Alabama. “I know I’m going to the Florida/Georgia game, and I might come back for the South Carolina game.”
