Colbert to coach UF’s wide receivers

Florida has hired Keary Colbert as its wide receivers coach, head coach Billy Napier announced on Wednesday.

Colbert spent the last six years working for his alma mater, USC. He was an analyst in 2016-17, the tight ends coach in 2018 and the wide receivers coach from 2019-21.

Five offensive players were selected in the NFL Draft during Colbert’s tenure, including quarterback Sam Darnold, receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster, running back Ronald Jones and receiver Michael Pittman.

In 2019, Pittman was named a finalist for the Biletnikoff Award after ranking in the top-20 nationally in receptions, yards and touchdowns.

Prior to USC, Colbert worked as an analyst at Alabama from 2014-15, where he worked alongside Napier.

He started his collegiate coaching career at Georgia State in 2013. Current Miami Dolphins receiver Albert Wilson turned in a 1,000-yard season that year.

Colbert started for all four years with the Trojans and broke the program record for most career receptions (207). He also accrued 2,964 career receiving yards and 19 touchdowns. He was a captain on their 2003 national championship team, and he was named Second Team All-Pac 10 in 2002 and 2003.

He was selected in the second round of the 2004 NFL Draft and played seven years in the NFL and two in the United Football League. He returned to USC as a graduate assistant who worked with tight ends in 2010.

Colbert becomes the fifth member of Napier’s on-field coaching staff and the third on the offensive side of the ball.
