Clayton set on the Florida Gators after visit

Florida Gators defensive end commit Anntonneous Clayton(6-4, 218, Vienna, GA Dooly County) was one of five official visitors on the Gators campus this weekend and he came away impressed by the visit.

“It was good, it lived up to expectations,” Clayton said. “We got to try on equipment, go on the tours and stuff like that. We also got to go over to Coach Mac’s house and then we ate like every two hours. It was just a laid back and chill atmosphere. I’ve never seen anything like Coach [Jim McElwain] Mac’s house before, except on TV.”

On Saturday Clayton tweeted a picture of himself with Florida Gators defensive line coach Chris Rumph and the two parties had a good talk on Saturday.

“It was good to meet with Coach Rumph,” he said. “He was just telling me the same old stuff about needing me to rush the passer. He said to enjoy high school because it’s almost over.”

Gators defensive coordinator Geoff Collins has recruited Clayton hard and the two had a chance to catch up over the weekend.

“I got to meet Coach Collins’ wife again and that was cool,” Clayton said. “ He was telling me how much he needed me on the defensive line. He said that he needs me to rush the passer.”

One of the highlights of the trip was getting to sit down with Florida Gators head coach Jim McElwain and the head man gave Clayton a quick message.

“Me and Coach Mac just had a real laid back and relaxed talk,” he said. “He just told me that he was glad that I was a Gator and that I’m the leader of this class. He told me to keep working hard.”

Cornerback Chauncey Gardner was one of Clayton’s host during the weekend but the defensive end isn’t into the party scene.

“All of the guys were real cool but I didn’t go out or anything like that,” Clayton said. “I don’t like to go to parties or go to the clubs. I just went back to my hotel room because I’m not into that stuff.”

Clayton was able to do a little recruiting on the weekend, as defensive end Brian Burns was his top target, but the Gators commit didn’t get a firm answer from Burns.

“I was talking to Brian Burns a little bit and I asked him when he was going to commit,” Burns said. “He said that he had to take his other official visit first. It would be cool to have him at Florida but I don’t know what he’s going to do. I also hung out with Brett [Heggie] and [Lamical] Perine. Perine’s real cool.”

Several teams have tried to get a official visit from Clayton set up for next weekend but Clayton says he’s done with visits.

“I’m not taking any visits next weekend, Florida State wants me too though,” Clayton said.  “I just went and bought a bunch of Gators clothes at the store so I’m not going anywhere.”

INSIDERS TAKE: I don’t expect Clayton to take any visits as he has said all along that he wanted to be a man of his word. Clayton had a great trip from everything he told me.
