The Florida Gators had several of their commits in town on Saturday when they defeated Long Island to open the football season.
Offensive line commit Tyler Chukuyem (6-6, 290, Douglasville, GA. South Paulding) was in town to watch the game and enjoyed the energy in the Swamp.
“For it being Long Island, it was a pretty cool game to go to,” Chukuyem said of his visit to Florida on Saturday. “The atmosphere, with it being Long Island, was still insane. I just can’t imagine what it will be like for an SEC school.”
Chukuyem was impressed by the play of the offense on Saturday, and he says it all boils down to the coaching staff.
“It just shows the coaching, really, at the end of the day,” he said on seeing the team. “It just shows the development that the guys have, and it’s just something I want to be around.”
When Chukuyem had the chance to meet with the coaching staff, they had a simple message for him for the day.
“The topic was just like for me to experience everything,” Chukuyem said on the message from the staff. “They were hoping for me to experience the best atmosphere I could at the game and to just have a great time.”
Chukuyem says the coaching staff has stayed in touch with him despite his commitment and made sure to let him know that he’s still wanted.
“They’ve been texting me and stuff like that, how have you been and whatnot,” he said on the coaches still talking to him daily. “Just like little stuff, it’s just good to see that they’re still in contact and they’re still feeling the same about me. It’s a good feeling.”
Next up for Chukuyem will be more visits to Gainesville but he just isn’t sure what game yet.
“Hopefully, I might be back down this weekend,” Chukueyem said on upcoming visits to UF. “USF is a maybe, and then Texas is a maybe. A strong maybe.”
Georgia recently offered Chukuyem, and he says the staff has talked to him about visiting, but nothing has been set.
“It’s up to them,” he said on possibly visiting Georgia. “They’ve been texting me, just little stuff here and there.”
Despite Georgia offering, Chukuyem says his commitment to Florida is strong for several reasons.
“I’m feeling great, I love Florida,” he said of his commitment to UF. “I love the coaches, the players, and I feel very strong about my commitment.”
