Chris McClellan commits to the Florida Gators over Oklahoma

The Florida Gators are in the middle of a coaching change but that did not stop the Gators from picking up a big commitment on Tuesday.

Defensive lineman Chris McClellan (6-3, 295, Owasso, OK. High) committed to the Gators over Oklahoma, Ohio State and others on Tuesday.

“For the next three to four years, I will be attending the University of Florida,” McClellan said.

McClellan was last on campus for the Alabama game where he was able to meet with defensive line coach David Turner about how he would fit into the defense.

“Just seeing how they play, just matching my size, I feel like I play very similar to Zach Carter right now,” McClellan said on how he thinks he will fit into the defense. “Coach Turner said some stuff that I do right now that even he wasn’t doing last year. Seeing Zach and how he’s playing.”

Despite the uncertainty around the coaching staff, McClellan’s relationship with David Turner was big in getting the lineman to commit to Florida.

“Coach Turner is a really cool dude, he’s a good person,” he said on his relationship with Turner. “He’s always going to keep it 100 with you and tell you the truth. He’s never going to steer you wrong.”

Now that McClellan is committed, the Gators have 12 commits in the class following Isaiah Bond and Jamarrien Burt’s decommitments the last few days.

McClellan joins defensive tackle Jamari Lyons as staples in the middle of this line and the two of them are joined by Francois Nolton as members of the defensive line class in 2022.
