Chief Borders breaks down why he committed to the Florida Gators

Last weekend, the Florida Gators picked up a big commitment for the 2021 class after the win over Vanderbilt.

2021 athlete Chief Borders (6-3, 230, Powder Springs, GA. McEachern) committed to Florida over offers Arkansas, Auburn and others.

“It just felt right,” Borders said on why he committed to Florida. “Coach Dan Mullen told me I was special and I love the atmosphere, the culture and the education is second to none. They have great football, a great education and great coaches who care. And I look amazing in the Florida Gators uniform, match made in Heaven.”

Borders had multiple Florida coaches recruiting him hard including head coach Dan Mullen who had a message for him.

“Coach Mullen, Coach Christian Robinson and Coach G [Billy Gonzales] did a great job of recruiting me, it felt like home from day one,” he said on the message from the coaching staff. “They know I’m a versatile athlete that can play on offense and defense. I will play a lot of receiver my senior year.”

The 2021 athlete plays both offense and defense in high school and the Gators haven’t decided on an exact position for him but Borders is open to whatever Florida has in mind for him.

“They see me as a very versatile athlete, I’m 6-4, 232, Coach Mullen and Coach Gonzales said they were ready to get me and get rolling,” Borders said on where Florida wants him to play. “I love playing receiver and I love playing defense but wherever they tell me to play, I’m going to play, offense, defense or special teams. I’m down to do whatever.”

Borders visited Gainesville for the Vanderbilt game and he has been watching Mullen and the Gators closely and he likes what Dan Mullen has done with the program so far.

“Coach Mullen has done an incredible job, the first year wasn’t his recruiting class and they beat Michigan badly in the bowl game and had a winning season,” he said on what he thinks of the job that Dan Mullen has done at Florida. “This year is another winning season and they’re still in the college football picture, the best is yet to come. I smell that national title coming to Florida.”

Now that he’s committed, Borders says he plans to start recruiting several others to join him in Gainesville.

“Of course, I tell them it’s a great day to be a Florida Gator,” Borders said on his recruiting message to other guys. “I’m going after Barrett Carter, Ese Dubre, Deajoan Reynolds and especially Micah Morris, David Daniel and Cane Berrong. That’s the 2021 hot boys.”
