Canelas has a lot of interest in the Florida Gators following his visit to UF

On Saturday most of the prospects that visited Gainesville for the Florida Gators match-up against Tennessee were instate guy but the coaching staff did mange to get a few out of state underclassmen on campus as well.

2021 offensive lineman Andrew Canelas (6-8, 300, Raleigh, NC. Leesville Road) visited Gainesville for the first time to watch the Gators beat Tennessee.

“The visit was great,” Canelas said of his visit to Florida on Saturday. “I ate lunch and then did the Gator Walk, went down to the field and talked to some of the coaches down there and then we went to our seats and watched the game. After the game we went into the locker room and listened to what the coaches had to tell the players.”

Canelas was impressed by the Gators offensive line and the entire team on Saturday as the defeated Tennessee.

“The offensive line was good up front,” he said on his thoughts on the offensive line. “It looked like they where winning the battles in the trenches. Florida as a whole looked very dominant and they managed to control the game from the start with an early touchdown and multiple defensive stops. They looked great.”

Head coach Dan Mullen and offensive line coach John Hevesy had the chance to speak with Canelas on Saturday before the game and give him a small message.

“I got to say hi to Coach Mullen before the game,” Canelas said of the coaches he spoke too. “I got to talk to Coach Hevesy before the game, it was the first time I met him in person and he first told me I’m a big guy and that he’s going to talk to me more later.”

This was the first time for Canelas to meet Hevesy and he walked away impressed by the veteran offensive line coach.

“He seems like a nice guy who has a passion to develop offensive linemen,” he said on his thoughts on Hevesy. “From what I saw Saturday they where constantly moving the line of scrimmage in the run game and they also gave the quarterback a good amount of time in the pocket.”

The Gators are close to offering Canelas and he says he has a lot of early interest in the Gators despite not having the offer yet.

“I have a lot of interest in Florida and we will see about an offer soon,” Canelas said of his interest in Florida. “They’re a very good football program that has a winning culture while also being a pretty good school.”

Canelas has several other teams coming after him hard and he also knows a few schools that he wants to visit in the future.

“UNC, Duke, NC State, Virginia Tech and Virginia contact me on the daily,” he said of other schools talking to him. “I’m planning on visiting North Carolina, Virginia Tech, Notre Dame, Duke and maybe either Louisville or Kentucky.”
