Cade Klubnik breaks down his recent zoom call with the Gators

The Florida Gators are looking for their quarterback for the 2022 class and quarterback coach Garrick McGee has been recruiting a few guys very hard.

2022 quarterback Cade Klubnik (6-2, 178, Austin, TX. Westlake) is one of those guys McGee is after and the two spoke at length on Tuesday night.

“It was good, we just did a zoom call with my parents and we talked about all kinds of stuff,” Klubnik said of his call with Florida on Tuesday. “We’re setting up a virtual visit for next week but this call went really well. This was our third or fourth zoom but this was my parents’ first one talking with Coach McGee.”

Klubnik was one of the first guys that McGee offered once he took over for Brian Johnson and he has explained to the 2022 prospect what the Gators like about him.

“He really likes my competitiveness and coming from a great quarterback coach, he knows that I’ve learned a lot about the game already from my head coach,” he said on what McGee likes about his game. “My knowledge of the game is huge and he’s focused on those two things a ton.”

McGee has also broken down just how Klubnik would fit into Florida’s offense if he were to come to lead the offense in Gainesville.

“He loves to throw the ball down the field and plays to win the game,” Klubnik said on how McGee has told him he will fit into the offense. “When you have to run the ball as the quarterback in short-yardage or in the red zone we will but he’s not going to come out and run me like a bulldozer all game.”

Klubnik is also impressed with head coach Dan Mullen and his past history with quarterbacks.

“What he did with Kyle [Trask] the last few years was super cool to see,” he said on what he likes about Mullen and his offense. “I think that gives you a ton of confidence going in with a quarterback coach who knows what he’s doing and has done it before. I think it’s really promising to see what he has done so far.”

The 2022 quarterback is still in the process of learning more about the Gators but so far he knows a few things.

“I’m still learning every day but they’re very academic,” Klubnik said on what he knows about Florida. “It’s a good culture and I think they’re going to be on the come up the next few years and with the coaching staff they have, I think they could be a team that takes off soon.”

Klubnik says a lot of schools are recruiting but his interest in the Gators is high as he learns more about the program.

“I like them a lot right now, I’m liking them but I’m still learning about them because I don’t know a ton about them,” he said on his interest in Florida and other schools recruiting him hard. “I would say, North Carolina, Texas, Florida, Auburn, and Clemson are.”

Next up for Klubnik will likely be some self-guided visits to several schools and then a decision could follow soon.

“I’m hoping to do it in the next couple of months, to be honest, I don’t want to wait too long,” Klubnik said on a decision. “
