Bryce Thornton commits to the Florida Gators over Alabama

The Florida Gators picked up their 21st commitment on Thursday when they landed another impressive defensive back and this time it was an out-of-state prospect.

Safety Bryce Thornton (5-10, 185, Alpharetta, GA. Milton) committed to the Gators over the Alabama Crimson Tide and several others on Thursday.

Thornton visited Gainesville for the Kentucky game earlier this fall and he walked away impressed by how the coaching staff plays the young guys.

“It’s a really big deal for me because I definitely want to play my freshman year,” Thornton said on seeing the young guys play a lot on Saturday. “I really like the defense, I felt like they played a good defensive game and I feel like they can play even better.”

While on campus, Thornton had a chance to speak with all of the coaching staff, and defensive coordinator Patrick Toney explained to the safety what the Gators like about him.

“They like that I’m versatile,” he said on what the staff likes about his game. “They feel like I can play nickel, corner, and safety. They feel like I can do it all on the field.”

Thornton is the fourth defensive back commit in the class as he joins Ja’Keem Jackson, Jordan Castell, and Shariff Denson in the Class of 2023. Athlete Aaron Gates is also slated to play defensive back in college but he plays both ways in high school.
