Brenton Cox Jr. dismissed from Florida football program

Gator Country’s sources have confirmed that Brenton Cox has been dismissed from the team following an incident after Florida’s loss to Georgia in week nine.

Napier was asked about Cox’s dismissal in Monday’s press conference.

“We’ve kind of decided to move on here,” Billy Napier said. “I think that being a football player at the University of Florida is a privilege, there’s certain expectations and standards that come with that. Brenton’s been here, in his third year, obviously he’s done a lot of good things for the University of Florida, and we wish him nothing but the best. Sometimes you have to make decisions in the best interest of the team.”

“We’re going to do everything we can to help him with his transition,” Napier said.

The redshirt junior has started in all eight games on the defensive line for the Gators, totaling 35 tackles, 8 tackles for loss, two sacks, and one pass deflection.

His defensive grade of 68.4 ranks 9th on Florida’s defense amongst players with 20+ snaps, according to PFF.

Cox’s last game with the Gators comes against his former team, the Georgia Bulldogs.

Florida will now lean on Justus Boone, Antwuan Ryland-Powell, and Llyod Summerall at the edge position in the final four games.

“We’ve been playing a handful of players in that position the entire year,’ Napier said. “AP and Lloyd and those guys do a really good job, they’ve been playing in each and every game for the most part.”

I expect to see Justus Boone and Princely Umanmielen on the field at the same time this Saturday.
