Brad Davis making a strong impression on Lucas

Florida’s Friday Night Lights event brought many top linemen from both sides of the ball on campus. One of the big offensive line targets to make an appearance on campus was 2019 6-3 323-pound Dontae Lucas from Miami.

This was the second trip that Lucas has made to Gainesville and he had a goal in mind for his second visit. That goal was to get to know offensive line Coach Davis better.

“What stood out the most, well, I just really wanted to get to know Coach Davis,” Lucas said. “That’s really it. Overall, I love him. He’s a great coach. I really like the way he coaches and what he is all about. Everything’s perfect.”

Lucas also is familiar with Coach Bell and Coach Seider from interactions at their previous coaching jobs.

“Well, Corey Bell, I’ve known him since my eighth-grade year, because he offered me when he was at FAU,” he said. “Coach Seider, he coached my big brother, so it was nothing really to know about him. I know he took care of my brother when he was at West Virginia. His name is Marquis Lucas and he played offensive tackle.”

The Gators are on a list of four schools that Lucas is focusing on right now. The list also includes Alabama, Georgia and Miami.

“I don’t really have a top right now, but the Gators are up there,” Lucas said. “I really like Alabama, Florida, Miami, Georgia, and many others. I’m still an underclassman, so I’m just taking my time.

A school having a strong family atmosphere is a main factor that will play in getting a pledge from Lucas. The Gators have done a great job of making him feel that way in Gainesville.

“To get my commitment, basically make me feel like I’m at home,” he said. “Florida’s doing a good job of making me feel like I’m at home. It’s nice here at Florida. I feel like, I don’t know, it just feels good being here.”
