Borders solid with the Florida Gators

2021 Florida athlete commit Chief Borders (6-3, 230, Powder Springs, GA. McEachern) is one of several Gators targets participating in the Future 50 during the Under Armour All-American week.

Borders has been solid since he committed to the Gators and he broke down exactly what led him to commit to Florida late last year.

“They kept it real. They kept it nothing but real with me,” Borders said. “I love the whole process, but Florida just stuck out to me because they were for me. When I met Coach [Dan] Mullen at Mississippi State, it was basically like love at first sight, it was great. Now that he transferred over to Florida, it was second to none.”

Florida’s coaching staff has talked to Borders about playing several different positions but linebacker is likely the future for the Gators commit.

“When I put my hand in the dirt, I know how to get off the ball real fast,” he said on his game. “Pass rushing is one my main keys. I don’t use it all of the time, but I can also cover like a defensive back. I’ve been playing defensive back all of my life, so that’s what I usually do.”

Linebackers coach Christian Robinson has been a big key in Borders recruitment and he has told the athlete what the Gators like about him.

“Coach Robinson loves the way I move,” Borders said. “With me being so big and being able to move the way I can is like a bonus.”

Despite being a Gators commit, Borders says he has a few visits he wants to take in the coming months.

“I’ve got to get out to Virginia and then I want to go visit Oregon as they’re recruiting me too,” he said of visits he wants to take. “Definitely Stanford and I’ve got to visit UF again. Notre Dame too.”

Borders says despite taking visits he’s solid with the Gators and likes everything about Florida.

“It’s definitely pretty solid,” Borders said of his commitment. “I’m definitely committed. It’s a great day to be a Florida Gator.”
