Blocton says the Florida Gators “stand really high” in his recruitment

Several out-of-state prospects visited Gainesville over the weekend to watch the Florida Gators practice and to meet with the coaching staff.

Defensive lineman Malik Blocton (6-3, 268, Pike Road, AL. High) made the trip to Gainesville for a two-day visit and was able to see a lot of what Florida has to offers.

“It was a good visit, it was fun,” Blocton said of his visit to Florida on Friday and Saturday. “When I got up there on Friday, I went and took pictures and then toured the academic facilities. On Saturday, I got the chance to watch the practice.”

Blocton had the chance to watch the Gators practice for the first time and he focused on the defensive line group and coach Sean Spencer.

“Practice was a high-energy practice,” he said. “They got after it, I was watching Coach [Sean] Spencer and the defensive line. Coach Spencer, brings a lot of energy and juice to the practice. He kept it real with his guys and didn’t sugarcoat anything with them. He’s a good coach.”

After practice was over, Blocton had the chance to watch film with Spencer and the assistant coach explained to the Alabama native just where he would play at on defense.

“I was watching film with Coach Spencer, and he told me to watch #94 [Tyreak] Sapp,” Blocton said on where Spencer wants him to play. “He wants me to play the stand-up defensive end like Kelby Collins plays and that I would play 3-technique and in. He likes how versatile I am and how I can play anywhere on the defensive line.”

Head coach Billy Napier caught up with Blocton before he left campus on Saturday and wanted to get a feel for where the defensive lineman was leaning.

“Coach Napier was telling me that when I get to college that I’m going to have to gain some weight,” he said on the message from Napier. “He was mainly asking me questions about how I like Florida and where they stand at for me.”

After the visit, Blocton says the Gators are high in his recruitment for several reasons including where the staff wants him to play.

“They stand really high, I really like Florida and how they’re recruiting me,” Blocton said. “There’s a lot that stands out about Florida, there facilities are really good, the nutrition part is good, and they have one of the best schools and academic programs in the country.”

Next up for Blocton will be more visits and then he wants to set his five official visits including one to Florida.

“I’m going to take my officials in the summer, Florida will get one,” he said. “I want to announce my decision sometime during my football season.”
