Billy Napier provides injury update on QB DJ Lagway

True freshman quarterback DJ Lagway suffered an apparent hamstring injury in the second quarter of Florida’s week ten game vs Georgia, which sidelined the former five star for the remainer of the game.

While it was hard to be optimistic on the severity of Lagway’s injury given he could hardly put any weight on it, head coach Billy Napier provided a positive update during Monday’s press conference.

“The good news is we’ve had positive information on that front. That is the positive there. We do think that injury is less significant. We do think there’s a pathway for recovery and a return. We did find that out yesterday evening. So a lot of good on that front,” Napier said on Lagway’s injury.

Napier would go as far to say Florida has not ruled Lagway out for the Gators’ week 11 matchup vs No.5 Texas.

“So less significant than we anticipated, and he’s been doing well so far this morning. We have not completely ruled him out, and I think a lot of that will be to be determined as we move our way throughout the week. So that’s a good thing for all involved and certainly for DJ.”

“We’re going to kind of see how that goes,” Napier added. “Look, it’s going to be pretty clear-cut once we get to Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, so we’ll know.”

If Lagway is unable to go next Saturday, Florida will move forward with PWO QB Aidan Warner, who completed 7 of 22 passes for 66 yards and an interception vs Georgia.

“Look, the kid did as good of job as he could do,” Napier said on Warner. “There will be some plays that he would like to have back, but it’s a pretty big stage to trot out there in the middle of that one, which, yeah, I’ve been impressed with him. He won the job back during training camp, late training camp going into week one in the season.”
