Baylor offensive line transfer Micah Mazzccua commits to Florida

The Florida Gators received a commitment from Baylor offensive guard Micah Mazzccua on Tuesday night, beating out Nebraska and Auburn for his services.

The 6-5, 331-pound guard announced his decision on social media.

Originally a member of the 2020 recruiting class, Mazzccua was a three-star prospect out of St. Frances Academy in Baltimore, Maryland. He held offers from Temple, Syracuse, Michigan, Maryland, Virgina Tech, UMass and Baylor out of high school.

In 2020, Mazzccua didn’t see the field and redshirted.

During his redshirt freshman season, Mazzccua appeared in 9 games before earning a starting role along the offensive line the following season.

In 2022, Mazzccua started 11 games at LG for the Bears, logging 759 snaps in the process. His run block grade of 78.5 was the 2nd highest on the team among players with 50+ snaps, according to Pro Football Focus.

Mazzccua’s pass block grade of 66.9 ranks 10th on the Baylor offense, despite allowing just one sack, two hits, eight QB hurries, and 11 pressures.

The Gators had to fill the roles of O’Cyrus Torrence (NFL) and Ethan White (transfer portal) in the offseason. While Florida may not be done at the position, this is certainty a step in the right direction. Mazzccua is likely an immediate starter at left guard for the Gators in 2023.

Mazzccua will need to improve on his pass blocking ability and clean up his penalty issue from 2022 (led Baylor with six). Nonetheless, this is a great pickup at a position of need for the Florida Gators. He has two years of eligibility remaining and will enroll this week.
