The Gators hosted 10 prospects who are committed elsewhere from the class of 2025 during Florida’s week one matchup vs Miami.
Auburn defensive line commit Malik Autry remains hopeful that the Gators are headed in the right direction and is still high on the Gators after week one. Autry is a four-star prospect in the class of 2025 and stands at 6-5.5, 320 pounds, according to 247sports’ composite rankings.
“You know, I think Florida knows that they have things to work on,” Autry said on his view of the game. “They are going to be optimistic the rest of the season. Everyone knows that they have some kinks to work out, and I never expected them to come out here and win every game with their schedule. I just want to see improvement and see that they are going in the right direction and that there will be another year of Billy Napier. It was a tough loss, but I still think they are going in the right direction and will bounce back.”
The biggest positive for Autry was seeing the defensive line look slimmer than they did when he watched them last season.
“I did see some, the main thing I was looking at was the style of play,” Autry said. “I did like the fact that Cam Jackson and the other interior guys were moving around, it looked like they lost some weight.”
The Gators are running out of time with the Auburn commit, but the four-star is still up for grabs.
Autry currently has no visits scheduled, but plans on attending Florida’s matchup against UCF, as well as Colorado’s matchup against the Knights and the big game between Ohio State and Michigan.
“None of my other visits are scheduled, but just depending on how the rest of the season goes with other teams and watching those games, it’s ultimately going to shape my decision,” Autry said. “I hope to make a decision as far as shutting it down towards the end of September, but I had to come back to see the Gators if it’s the last look I get. I recruit for Auburn, mainly because I grew up an Auburn fan, but that doesn’t mean that I will go there.”
With Autry looking to shut down his recruitment in September, the Auburn commit isn’t looking at many other teams other than Florida and Ohio State. Both teams are currently neck-and-neck.
“I honestly don’t know, both are two really good schools,” Autry said on Florida and Ohio State. “They are both pushing really hard, but it would have to be both of them.”
The Alabama native out of Opelika High School is the 104th ranked player in the Class of 2025 and ranks 13th at his position while holding a total of 20 offers.
In his last two seasons at Opelika High, Autry has registered a total of 79 tackles (11 TFL), 7 QBH, 3.5 sacks and a PBU.
