This weekend the Florida Gators hosted several prospects on campus that are committed elsewhere including one who arrived on campus early on Friday.
Auburn defensive line commit Marquis Evans (6-4, 270, Birmingham, AL. Spain Park) was on campus for over 24 hours and he says the attention he received from the staff was big for him.
“I just know that they will bounce back and continue to show up the rest of the season,” Evans said of Florida. “It didn’t change anything for me, they made me a priority this weekend and showed me a lot of stuff. A lot of good people and I’ve seen everything I needed to see and I know where I stand with them.”
Evans who has been committed to Auburn since the summer, says the loss doesn’t change his opinion about Florida as the staff has a plan for him if he was to flip.
“The people make the place,” he said of what he’s looking for in a program. “Any given Saturday, you can lose. I could see myself fitting into the scheme they view me like #99 on the defense.”
Before the game, Evans was introduced to several people including the president of the University of Florida and that stood out to the Auburn commit.
“They made me a priority, I met the president and the athletic director,” Evans said on what Florida did to help itself on Saturday. “I met a lot of good people. It meant a lot because they had a game and they made me a priority and put me in front of those people.”
The coaching staff also made sure to let Evans know that they’re waiting on him and that he’s wanted.
“That they aren’t going to rush me and push me to make a decision,” he said on the message from the staff. “They want me to know that they want me. I respect that a lot because it shows that they have patience and some schools don’t.”
After this visit, Evans says two schools are recruiting him the hardest to flip and after seeing Florida he will get a chance to see the other school involved.
“Alabama and Florida,” he said on the two schools pushing the hardest to flip him. “I really just want to go to Alabama and see the vibe because like I said about here, the people make the place.”
Up next is three more visits to SEC schools as Evans is trying to make sure he made the right decision with his commitment to Auburn.
“Tennessee next weekend, Bama the next weekend,” Evans said on visits coming up. “Then I’m going to Texas on the 31st.”
