Florida Gators linebacker Alex Anzalone broke his left arm in a 31-10 loss on Saturday to Arkansas. Zach Abolverdi of SEC Country was first to report.
A redshirt junior Anzalone is second on the team with 53 tackles this season, including eight against the Razorbacks before he left in the third quarter. Anzalone has had a long history of injuries at Florida. He had shoulder surgery shortly after enrolling early his freshman season but he was able to contribute in 2013. Anzalone’s 2015 season was ended with another shoulder injury that required surgery.
Anzalone earned his bachelor’s degree this past summer and is currently taking graduate classes at Florida. He is eligible to leave school for the NFL Draft but has yet to make a final decision regarding that.
Anzalone’s loss is a big one for the Gators. Senior linebacker Jarrad Davis has been playing through a badly sprained ankle and also had to leave the Arkansas game Saturday. That left Florida with redshirt freshman Kylan Johnson and true freshmen Vosean Joseph and David Reese. The Gators face South Carolina and LSU the next two weeks before ending the regular season on the road in Tallahassee to face the Seminoles.
Possible he comes back for unfinished business? It can only help his NFL aspirations by putting more games on record… Better than every season being asterisked with injury notes.
