The Florida Gators have 20 commits in the Class of 2023 after a big weekend in which the Gators picked up three commits in the 23 class and one in the 2024 class.
Billy Napier and his staff have several spots still available in the class and they have some big needs remaining in the class.
GatorCountry breaks down a few of the Gators’ top remaining targets in the Class of 2023 that could finish off the class for the Gators.
Offensive lineman Monroe Freeling- Freeling has visited Florida multiple times including an official visit to Gainesville in June. Freeling likes the Gators and the coaching staff a lot and he sees early playing time in Gainesville. Freeling is taking things slow, and Florida is battling, Miami and Georgia for the North Carolina prospect. Freeling says he wants to return for a game this fall.
Offensive lineman Caden Jones- Jones is a late riser and picked up an offer from Florida in the spring and then visited Gainesville for Friday Night Lights. Jones has built a good relationship with both Rob Sale and Darnell Stapleton, and he plans to return to Gainesville for a game and an official visit in December. Right now, it’s a Florida/Texas A&M battle for Jones.
Defensive lineman Jordan Hall- The Jacksonville native is in no hurry to decide in his recruitment and will likely take his recruitment to early signing day. Hall has been on campus in Gainesville a lot and plans to return for a game this fall and an official visit. Florida is battling, Georgia, Ohio State, and South Carolina for Hall’s signature.
Defensive lineman Kayden McDonald- McDonald was on campus in Gainesville for the cookout and came away from the visit very high on the Gators. McDonald and his family like Sean Spencer and the rest of the coaching staff and the defensive tackle also like the early playing time available in Gainesville. McDonald doesn’t have a commitment date in my mind right now, but the Gators have a lot of competition as Clemson, Georgia, Oklahoma, and Ohio State are all in the mix.
Defensive back Dijon Johnson-Johnson visited Gainesville for Friday Night Lights and stayed through the cookout after that visit de-committed from Ohio State. Johnson has been someone that the Gators’ staff has stayed on even though he was committed to the Buckeyes. Johnson likes Florida a lot and the Gators are the top team right now.
Defensive back Cormani McClain- McClain is the biggest remaining target for the Gators in terms of need but also because he’s one of the top players in the state and this is a chance for Billy Napier to once again show that the Gators are back and plan to keep instate players home. Alabama and Miami are squarely in the mix for McClain and are battling the Gators for the Lakeland defensive back who doesn’t plan to announce until December.
