A look at the Florida Gators defensive line board for 2021

The buzz around the Florida Gators recruiting efforts have been very strong for the 2021 class for the past few months and the Gators will host their second junior day on Saturday.

A lot of the buzz is coming from the Gators defensive line class as the Gators have already landed three big targets and still have several other big name targets on the board that are leaning towards or have strong interest in the Gators.

Defensive line coach David Turner and recruiting assistant David Cooper have been leading the way with these guys and we will break down the remaining targets on the board for the defensive line in the class of 2021 in this article.

Commits

Florida has three defensive line commits already including two defensive ends and one defensive tackle.

Defensive end Tyreak Sapp was the first one of the bunch of commit to Florida and he has remained solid with the Gators despite originally committing to Sal Sunseri when he was on staff. Sapp has been a frequent visitor to Gainesville and plans to be back on campus this coming weekend.

Defensive end Justus Boone committed to the Gators last week and he will make his first visit to Gainesville this coming weekend. Boone talks a lot with former Gators defensive end Carlos Dunlap and that has helped the Gators out a lot.

Defensive tackle Christopher Thomas committed to Florida last year and has been solid with the Gators since making that decision. Thomas will also be back on campus this coming weekend for junior day.

Targets

Defensive ends

The coaching staff has made it clear that the Gators want to load up on the defensive line this year as they’re expected to lose at least five players from the group after next year due to graduation or potential guys leaving early.

Here are the remaining targets for the Gators on the defensive line board.

Defensive end Tunmise Adeleye just recently moved to IMG Academy from Texas and he has strong interest in the Gators. Adeleye has a great connection with Turner and Cooper and he plans to announce a decision on August 1st. Alabama, Texas A&M and LSU are also in the picture but right now the Gators should be viewed as the team to beat. Adeleye will be back in Gainesville this weekend for his second trip of the year.

Defensive end Shambre Jackson is an Orlando native who has long had Florida as one of his top schools and he plans to be in Gainesville on Saturday for junior day. Jackson is one of many instate targets that has the Gators high on his list.

Defensive end Keanu Koht earned his offer last summer at camp after working out for Turner and he has been on campus several times since then. Georgia and Alabama are also strongly in the mix for Koht who says he doesn’t have a leader right now.

Defensive end Bryce Langston is a former commit to Florida and now is looking hard at both Florida and LSU but doesn’t seem to be in a rush to make a decision this time around. Langston plans to get on campus on Friday before he heads to a 7-on-7 tournament on Saturday. The Gators have his teammate Trevonte Rucker in the fold already and that helps the Gators.

Defensive end Keeshawn Silver just released his top seven and the Gators made the cut. Silver will be in Gainesville on Saturday and he says he plans to spend the weekend in town to see more of Gainesville. North Carolina and Florida are the two teams talked about the most with Silver who says he would like to have a decision before his senior year if possible.

Defensive end Jeremiah Williams is a rather new name on the board but he will make his first visit to Gainesville on Saturday for junior day. It’s still early to tell just how much interest Williams has in the Gators but right now Alabama is the team to beat for the Birmingham native.

Defensive tackles

Defensive tackle Savion Collins is a Miami commit but he’s from Palmetto and been in Gainesville a lot over the past year. Collins has expressed his interest in the Gators and he likes Florida a lot but Miami is hanging on to his commitment at this time.

Defensive tackle Maason Smith is a Louisiana native but he has expressed a lot of interest in the Gators for some time now. LSU will be tough to beat here but the Gators will continue to try and get Smith on campus this spring and summer.

Defensive tackle Leonard Taylor is one of many Palmetto guys that the Gators want badly in the 2021 class. Taylor will be on campus this weekend as the Gators continue to battle Miami for Taylor’s signature.

Defensive tackle Desmond Watson will be back on campus on Saturday and the Gators are currently in good shape for the Armwood native who has been on campus several times in the past. Georgia and Ohio State are also strongly in the mix for Watson.

Defensive tackle Victory Vaka picked up an offer in February and the California native wasted no time in setting up an official visit to Florida for the spring game. The Gators have Vaka’s attention and he likes Cooper but a good visit for the spring game will be key.
