John Mills likes the confidence he sees at Florida during OV

The Florida Gators hosted three offensive linemen for official visits last week including three-star tackle John Mills. Gainesville was the 4th stop for Mills on his official visit schedule, previously visiting Nebraska, California, and Washington. Mills is expected to wrap up his OV’s with a trip to the University of Texas on June 14th.

Current Gators’ center Jake Slaughter served as Mills’ host last weekend.

“It was cool hanging out with Jake Slaughter, he’s my type of dude,” Mills said on Slaughter. “He hunts and fishes, that’s what I like. We hung out at his house, watched some UFC, I liked hanging out with him.”

Mills liked the confidence he saw in Slaughter and the rest of the Gators’ team after spending time with the guys last weekend.

“Not only Jake, but everyone on the team thinks they are going to win a lot of games this year and get back to that 06-08 National Championship reign,” Mills said. “I like the confidence they have and everything they’re doing. Jake, you know the O-line, how close they are together and how good they will be and how good they are.”

“Their biggest message is no matter what people say or think about, that they will win a lot of football games this year… and they’re confident in that and that I could go help them win a National Championship,” Mills said on their message to him.

Mills got a chance to see that confidence and togetherness up close when watching Florida’s early morning workouts.

“I can see how close the O-line is and everyone… I saw in the second lift group they were moving weight. Des Watson, Jake Slaughter, Rod, they were all balling. They were having fun, but they we’re grinding too. When it was time to work, they worked. They had individual afterwards, got some good reps in. I can see it,” Mills said.

Mills is interested in studying agriculture, something he wants to do after an NFL career. Florida ranks as the 14th best university for agriculture sciences, according to US News.

“I went into their building and met with one of them, she was amazing,” Mills said. “We talked all about how you can even have five cattle in a special branch of the agriculture. There was a meat, knowing how to cut your meat, eat your meat. I liked that a lot because it’s something I could see myself doing after NFL hopefully, and living in the South, which is cool.”

The Gators gained some ground on Mills last weekend, but his commitment still appears to be wide open with a trip to Austin, Texas coming up.

“I’m going to take a week or two after the Texas OV to think about my options and commit eventually…just taking time but the Gators are up there for sure,” Mills concluded.
