2024 QB DJ Lagway commits to the Florida Gators over USC & others

The Florida Gators picked up a huge commitment on Wednesday when one of the top players in the 2024 class committed to the Gators.

2024 quarterback DJ Lagway (6-2, 225, Willis, TX. High) committed to the Gators over USC, Texas A&M and several others on Wednesday when he announced his commitment on ESPN.

“The coaching staff has been amazing,” Lagway said on why he committed to Florida. “I’m just excited to get to work and get the number 1 class.”

Lagway has been a frequent visitor to Gainesville including for two games this fall when he watched the Gators take on Kentucky and LSU.

“The atmosphere was so amazing,” Lagway said of his visit to Florida for the Kentucky game. “I’m so excited to see where this program heads. I’m real excited to see that. The crowd was energetic, and the fans were just showing love, it felt amazing, it felt like I was at home. I’m excited to come back for another game.”

The 2024 quarterback who is not only a good passer but a good runner likes the offense that Billy Napier and the Gators run.

“I like how he uses the play-action and the RPO stuff,” he said on what he liked from Florida’s offense. “Bootlegs and sprint outs. I love that, I think it fits me perfectly. Me being out in space and able to make plays with my legs and with my arm. I think it fits me perfectly.”

Napier and quarterback analyst Ryan O’Hara have explained to Lagway just why his game fits so well in Gainesville.

“They said that they love the way I play the game,” Lagway said on the message from the staff. “They said I keep the plays going at all time, if the pocket breaks down, I can extend the plays and make extra plays. If things don’t break down, I can still dice them up in the pocket.”

This fall Lagway played in just eight games and threw for 2,081 yards and 24 touchdowns with just five interceptions. Lagway also added 517 yards on the ground and seven more touchdowns.

Lagway is a two-sport athlete who also stars on the diamond and Gators’ baseball coach Kevin O’Sullivan has also offered the quarterback a baseball scholarship to Florida.
