Women’s golf stays in fifth place

Nashville, Tenn. – The Florida women’s golf team retained its hold on fifth place after firing a steady 299 in second-round play Saturday at the Mason Rudolph Women’s Championship. The Lady Gators are locked with Oklahoma State after shooting an 11-over 299. The Lady Gators recorded their best score Friday since head coach Jill Briles-Hinton took the reins of the women’s golf program in 1998 with a first-round total of 285.

After six teams shot rounds under par in Friday’s first-round action, the Ironhorse Course at the Legends Club fought back as team-leader UCLA was the only squad to shoot under the average.

True freshman Jessica Yadloczky (Casselberry, Fla.) improved her first-round tally by two strokes. Yadloczky registered the team’s best score on the day with a 73 and ended her round with a birdie. She moved up considerably in the standings, starting the day tied for 57th and finishing tied for 32nd heading into the final round.

Senior Tiffany Chudy (Miramar, Fla.) ended her first round with a flurry, notching two birdies in her last three holes. Chudy carried the momentum over to the second round and dropped one stroke from her total with a 74. She remains one shot back of Yadloczky and is sitting in a tie for 36th.

Two-time All-American and seventh-ranked Sandra Gal (Leichlingen, Germany) shot a 76 and is tied for 18th. Gal will be aiming for her 15th career top-10 finish in her 31st career tournament.

Fellow senior Whitney Myers (East Berlin, Pa.) mirrored Gal with a 75 and wrapped up with a birdie on the final hole to tie for 22nd. After Eleanor Tucker (Wilson, N. C.) opened the Mason Rudolph by tying her career-best score with a 1-under par 71, she scored an 82 to drop into a tie for 61st.

The medalist race continues to heat up as the first and second-ranked Amanda Blumenherst (Duke) and Anna Nordqvist (Arizona State) vie for top honors.

Sunday’s final round begins with tee times at 7:30 a. m. Live stats can be followed at www. golfstat. com.
