WCWS Photo Gallery: Gators vs. Hokies

OKLAHOMA CITY — Gator Country was the only Florida media outlet to have a photographer at the Women’s College World Series as the Gators’ made the first appearance in the program’s 12-year history. Here’s the second of five photo galleries, featuring 230 images you won’t find anywhere else.

The Gators improved to 68-4 on the season with a 2-0 win in nine innings against the Virginia Tech Hokies on May 31. The win set the NCAA record for most wins in a season.

Florida senior Mary Ratliff’s double in the top of the ninth scored the only two runs of the game. Four Gators reached base safely after Virginia Tech All-American pitcher retired the first two batters of the inning.

UF pitcher Stacey Nelson escaped a jam in the bottom of the ninth inning after a rare error by center fielder Kim Waleszonia allowed the leadoff runner to reach third base. Nelson intentionally walked two batters to load the bases with no outs, but did not allow a run to avoid elimination.

UF sophomore Francesca Enea batted 2-for-4 and scored a run. Freshman Aja Paculba batted 2-for-4.

Nelson pitched nine shutout innings, allowing only two hits and three walks while striking out seven batters.

Tincher allowed eight hits and two runs while striking out 19 batters.
