Christian Taylor named SEC Male Field Athlete of the Week

Junior Florida jumper Christian Taylor (Fayetteville, Ga.) has been named the Southeastern Conference’s Male Field Athlete of the Week for his standout performance at the Virginia Tech Elite Meet this past weekend, the league offices in Birmingham, Ala., announced Tuesday.

Taylor won the men’s triple jump competition at the Virginia Tech Elite Meet, marking his sixth consecutive victory in the men’s triple jump. He currently holds NCAA Division I’s longest streak of consecutive indoor triple jump wins, as he has not lost an indoor triple jump competition since the 2009 Tyson Invitational nearly two seasons ago.

Taylor posted an NCAA automatic-qualifying mark of 16.61m/54-6 this past weekend, making him the third Florida athlete this season to qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championships in the men’s triple jump. His mark went down as the 16th-best men’s triple jump mark in the world this season and the second-best in the nation.
