GatorCountry.com brings you this week’s Florida Gators softball review as the Gators finished the week with a 3-1 record. In this recap we will break down the past week’s games, plus name a player of the week from the past week.
The Gators started the week off by defeating top ranked Florida State and then finished the week in Lexington, Kentucky. The Gators went 2-1 in the series and lost for just the third time this year.
Florida is now 40-3 on the year and head home for the next four games including a weekend SEC series.

Offensive leaders
Junior Janell Wheaton is about the only Gator hitting right now as the offense slumped big time in Lexington. Wheaton had six hits in the four games this week and drove four runs in Lexington.
Junior Kayli Kvistad is on here because she had the game-winning hit against FSU on Wednesday night. Kvistad also picked up her 49th walk of the season and that ties her for the single-season record for walks.
Pitching
Tim Walton and Florida Gators softball pitching coach Jennifer Rocha threw only two of the Gators pitchers this past week. Walton used the duo of Gourley and Barnhill to defeat FSU and then used those two against Kentucky this past weekend.
Sophomore Kelly Barnhill is completely in control of things of right now is unhittable in the circle. In 16 innings pitched, Barnhill had 32 strikeouts and didn’t allow a run while also throwing a no-hitter on Sunday against Kentucky.
Senior Delanie Gourley pitched five shutout innings against FSU before being relieved by Barnhill on Wednesday. In total Gourley threw 11 innings but gave up five runs against Kentucky to take the loss.
Player of the week
Sophomore Kelly Barnhill was one walk away from throwing a perfect game against Kentucky on Sunday but that doesn’t take away from the impressive week she had. Barnhill has only given up three runs on the year and is average close to two strikeouts an inning.

Florida plays a mid-week game on Wednesday before hosting Ole Miss for a three games SEC series this weekend.
