Florida Gators soccer suffers second consecutive SEC Loss

The 12th ranked Florida Gators (6-3) lost their second consecutive SEC match to the Auburn Tigers (6-4) on Thursday night in Gainesville. The 3-0 loss was the first loss Florida has ever suffered at home to Auburn and the first time the Gators have been shut out at home against an SEC opponent since 1997.

Auburn was stout defensively all night, while Florida was shaky. Kristen Dodson scored two goals for the Tigers on the night. Her first came in the 24th minute on a defensive miscue by Florida’s sophomore goal keeper Kaylan Marckese.

Auburn took the 1-0 lead into the second half and the Gators began to get desperate on offense taking too many long range shots. The Tigers all but put the game away in the 83rd minute on as Brooke Ramsier’s corner kick connected with Courtney Schell for a header into the goal. Just two minutes later another mishap by the Gators sealed the deal as Marckese came way out and Dodson stole the ball to dribble it into the unprotected goal from 35 yards out.

Florida had nothing going their way offensively or defensively the entire night and handed Auburn two easy scores. It was far from a pretty game by the struggling Gators soccer team.
