Muschamp Monday Notebook

Florida Gators Coach Will Muschamp met with the media today to preview the Miami game:

  • Muschamp said to recap Toledo, it was a good team win. He counted nine explosive plays for the Gators against two for Toledo. The plus seven margin is outstanding.
  • Muschamp said they had to take care of the ball better in the pocket. Muschamp said his team averaged 5.5 yards per carry, and he thought they were really good on third down.
  • Muschamp’s Offensive Player of the Game was Mack Brown, Scrap Iron offensive linemen were Jon Harrison, Tyler Moore and Max Garcia.
  • Muschamp commented on how good Garcia and Moore have been.
  • The big plays Saturday came from wide receiver Trey Burton as well as running backs Valdez Showers and Mack Brown.
  • Defensively, Muschamp said the tempo of Toledo was handled well. Muschamp said it was a true team game.
  • Muschamp again mentioned third down as being outstanding.
  • Muschamp recognized  the entire defensive front with his Defensive Players of the Game. The Ball Hawk award went to cornerback Vernon Hargreaves III.
  • Muschamp gave his Hard Hat defensive award to linebacker Neiron Ball, said he played really well all game.
  • Muschamp’s Special Teams Player of the Game was Mark Herndon, Scout Team Players of the Week were Jeremi Powell, Ryan Parrish and Chris Thompson.
  • Muschamp said offensive tackle D.J. Humphries has a sprained MCL but will be fine against Miami, Dominique Easley has the flu but will also be fine against Miami, Matt Jones will play against Miami as expected.
  • Muschamp compared Miami running back Duke Johnson to former Gator Chris Rainey.
  • Muschamp talked to the team this morning about the history of the rivalry and will continue to do so during the week.
  • Muschamp said the message about players keeping their emotions in check is similar to that of the Georgia and FSU game weeks.
  • Muschamp said linebacker Antonio Morrison has an innate skill set as far as reading plays quickly.
  • Muschamp said it’s huge for wide receivers like Trey Burton to know things the way their quarterback does.
  • Muschamp feels like fullback Hunter Joyer is fully back.
  • Muschamp says that the team deals with crowd noise every day, the hostile environment won’t bother them.
