Over the next several weeks, Gator Country will catch up with the members of the 2014 recruiting class in an effort to give fans the opportunity to get to know the newest members of the Gator family.
Today we spoke with offensive lineman Travaris Dorsey of Raines High School.
Dorsey was one of the first players to commit to Florida in the 2014 recruiting cycle and like many players who commit early, are often over looked or forgotten by fans. After a drama filled recruiting cycle, it is refreshing to see a player like Dorsey make a commitment and stick to it throughout the process.
Gator Country: What was the craziest recruiting pitch you heard during the recruiting process?
Travaris Dorsey: I didn’t really get any crazy recruiting pitches. I thought I would get something like, weird or unexpected, but nothing like that really happened.
GC: You committed to the class early? If given the chance again would you wait it out or commit early again?
TD: It’s something I would do again.
GC: What was your favorite part of the recruiting process?
TD: Visiting campuses, checking out all the different campuses, the cities and how the fan base is there.
GC: Other than Florida, what was your favorite place to visit?
TD: Probably Tennessee. They told me I could come down and start and all that. The school is right in the middle of downtown, so that was nice.
GC: What is he highlight of your football career so far?
TD: High school. That’s when I really could start playing football because I was never able to play when I was young because I was too big. I would say playing in playoff games; everything is on the line, if you lose this it’s done, so everybody has to play hard.
GC: What number do you want to wear at Florida and what is the significance behind that choice?
TD: Hopefully I get 72. That’s just always been my number ever since I started playing football.
GC: Is there a NFL player you try to model your game after?
TD: Trent Williams.
GC: If you could take any celebrity on a date who would it be?
TD: A younger Halle Berry. I’d take her out to a movie, out to dinner a walk on the beach, we can watch the sunset, all that.
GC: What are your favorite sports teams?
TD: I don’t really have a favorite NFL team; I just like certain people at certain positions. For the NBA, right now, it’s probably OKC [Oklahoma City Thunder].
GC: LeBron or Durant?
GC: If you won the lottery, what would be the first thing that you would buy?
TD: My momma a new house.
GC: You mentioned that you felt like a role model in your community. Is there one thing that stood out to you that made you feel that way?
TD: When I was at games I was signing autographs and all that and kids coming up to me and just asking for that. It makes me feel like a role model.
GC: Who is your favorite Gator?
TD: Emmitt Smith.
