Gators unranked, first time since 2011

Just how crazy has this college football season been? There are three universities in the state of Florida that are ranked in the AP Top 25 and USA Today Coaches Polls and none of them are the Florida Gators.

Following back-to-back losses to LSU and Missouri the Gators have dropped out of the top 25 for the first time this season and the first time since 2011.

Missouri, the team that knocked Florida off on Saturday has had the biggest rise in the polls. Ranked No. 25 in the AP poll and unranked in the USA Today Coaches Poll two weeks ago, the Tigers have ascended all the way to No. 5 (AP) and No. 7 (Coaches) in the country after a road win at Georgia and their dismantling of the Gators.

Florida’s three losses have come to the No. 5, No. 7 and No. 8 ranked teams in the country and all those games have been on the road. With the first BCS rankings set to be released tonight that is something that could help Florida but don’t expect the Gators to have a little number next to their name the next time they play football two weeks from now in Jacksonville when they take on Georgia.

Nick de la Torre
A South Florida native, Nick developed a passion for all things sports at a very young age. His love for baseball was solidified when he saw Al Leiter’s no-hitter for the Marlins live in May of 1996. He was able to play baseball in college but quickly realized there isn’t much of a market for short, slow outfielders that hit around the Mendoza line. Wanting to continue with sports in some capacity he studied journalism at the University of Central Florida. Nick got his first start in the business as an intern for a website covering all things related to the NFL draft before spending two seasons covering the Florida football team at Bleacher Report. That job led him to GatorCountry. When he isn’t covering Gator sports, Nick enjoys hitting way too many shots on the golf course, attempting to keep up with his favorite t.v. shows and watching the Heat, Dolphins and Marlins.
