Defensive backs coach Torrian Gray has been one of the top coaches for the Florida Gators recruiting efforts since he arrived in February and he’s back in his old stomping grounds recruiting this week.

On Wednesday Gray visited defensive end Luiji Vilain (6-4, 240, Alexandria, VA Episcopal) with defensive line coach Chris Rumph.

“Coach Gray and Coach Rumph came by school yesterday [Wednesday],” Vilain said. “I couldn’t talk to them because of some kind of rule, but they went and talked to my coaches about me and stuff like that.”

While Vilain and Gray didn’t get to talk on Wednesday the two have been talking a lot over the last few months with Gray, trying to build a relationship with the defensive end.

“I talk to Coach Gray a few times a week either over the phone or on Twitter,” he said of communication with Florida. “Coach Gray is telling me that he really wants to get to know me so we can get comfortable with each other. He wants to get the process moving in my recruitment.”

Gray has talked to Vilain about how the defensive end can fit into the Gators’ defense if he chooses Gainesville for college.

“He was telling me that I can fit in really well at Florida with the defensive line,” Vilain said. “He said the things that they teach their defensive line is something they feel like I can do and have success with at Florida. He said that they really need me and want me on the team.”

Rumph didn’t get the chance to talk to Vilain on Wednesday, but he has told the defensive end where he would play at for the Gators defense.

“I’ve talked on the phone with Coach Rumph a few times too,” he said. “He tells me about what kind of guy he is and he says what you see is what you’re going to get out of him. He says that he sees me playing weak side defensive end where I can stand up sometimes and drop back into coverage some too.”

Vilain hasn’t visited Florida before but he has expressed a lot of interest in the Gators and it has a lot to do with the talent Florida produces.

“My interest in Florida is pretty high. I like Florida,” Vilain said when asked what his interest was in Florida. “They’re one of my top five schools because I really like their defense and I like what they have done of the last few years with defensive lineman and putting them into the league.”

INSIDERS TAKE: Vilain said a trip to Florida this summer is very likely to happen but he’s in the process of setting up visit right now. Vilain says that he hasn’t named a leader or cut his list to five yet, but he did know Florida would make the cut.
