McDoom calls the Florida Gators his leader

The Florida Gators are lacking big time playmakers at the receiver position and the good news for the Gators is that the state of Florida is loaded with receivers in the class of 2016.

Last week Florida handed out a new offer to one of the top receivers in receiver Eddie McDoom (6-1, 170, Winter Garden, FL West Orange) who says he heard about the news on his way home from school.

“My head coach told me that Florida offered me on Friday,” McDoom said. “He said that coach McElwain and the offensive coordinator had been watching my film a lot and liked me and that they wanted to offer me.”

McDoom was shocked to get the Florida offer but says that he has been in communication with Florida as of late.

“I’ve been talking to Florida a good bit lately,” McDoom said. “I’ve been talking to coach [Geoff] Collins the most. He has been just asking me how I was doing and giving me updates on how everything is going at Florida. He wants me to come up for the junior day in March and meet everyone.”

Collins has been filling McDoom in on a lot of things but McDoom talked to head coach Jim McElwain about the Gators offensive plans for him if he chooses the Gators.

“I talk to coach McElwain a lot too and he tells me that he wants to get his skill players the ball more,” McDoom said. “He said that he wants to use everyone in the best place possible and that he would explain more about the offense when I come up there for a visit.”

McDoom has double digit offers already but he says he has a new leader after the Florida offer came through last week.

“The offer means everything because it’s close to home,” McDoom said. “Florida is my leader right now because I know they need receivers there and that means I could get a lot of playing time early on.”

Next up for McDoom is a trip to Gainesville where he has an idea of what he wants to get out of the visit to Florida.

“I’m planning to visit Florida for the junior day on March 14th,” McDoom said. “I’ve seen everything already at Florida because I’ve visited them before so I just want to go up there and meet all of the coaches and learn more about them and the style of play they play to run.”

INSIDERS TAKE: McDoom is someone that I could see ending things soon in the Gators favor but that all depends on how next weekend’s visit goes to Florida for junior day.
