Harris sets decision date

Florida is looking to add two BUCK linebacker prospects during the 2014 recruiting cycle and one of their top targets is ready to announce.

Winter Park (Fla.) High defensive end/BUCK Trent Harris has set his decision date for this spring.

“I’m going to announce after my spring game on May 24th,” Harris said. “Florida is my leader but I’m going to try and take visits to Alabama and Georgia. I will also be at Florida for their spring game next weekend.”

The 6-foot-2, 231-pound Harris didn’t earn his Florida offer until late last month when he took an unofficial visit to Florida.

Even though he received a later offer than some, he knew instantly that the Gators were his leader.

“I was born a Gator fan so that’s one reason,” Harris said. “It’s a dream come true for me to have the Florida offer. I really like the coaching staff at Florida and they treat me like family when I was up there; it just feels like home at Florida.”

Florida isn’t taking for granted that they are the leader for Harris, as on Monday night he talked to two of Florida’s coaches at length.

“I talked to coach (Will) Muschamp and coach (Travaris) Robinson on Monday,” Harris said. “They were just telling me to try and visit for a practice and for the spring game and that they wanted me to meet some of the players and talk to the coaches more and stuff. I want to see a practice but I’m not sure if I’ll be able to or not. Coach Muschamp also was telling me that he thinks I can make a big impact as a pass rusher at the BUCK position.”

Harris said that Alabama and Georgia are both trying to build relationships with him but the contact hasn’t been as much as with Florida.
