Florida lands its 20th commitment

Florida started off fast with the Class of 2013, but have been slow the past few months in terms of verbal commitments until Thursday when Tampa (Fla.) Wharton cornerback Vernon Hargreaves III pulled the trigger on his pledge.

They’ve now picked up three verbal commitments in two days with the latest coming after Florida’s Friday Night Lights camp.

Tampa (Fla.) Hillsborough defensive end Jordan Sherit verbally committed to the Gators to join his best friend Hargreaves in this class for Florida. Sherit finally will public with his pledge via Twitter on Saturday after several sources, including one UF pledge, told GC he had pulled the trigger on Friday.

“Jordan Sherit … Yeah, he committed,” said Gators pledge Joey Ivie when asked what other recruits he had talked to at the one-day event.

Sherit announced on Twitter: “So blessed and privileged to announce that today I have committed to the University of Florida. Go Gators!”

Lawrenceville (Ga.) Archer defensive end Anotnio Riles committed to the Gators on Friday.

The 6-foot-5, 234-pound Sherit gives the Gators 20 commitments for the Class of 2013. Sherit is the fourth defensive lineman in the class, joining Riles, Caleb Brantley and Joey Ivie.

Sherit picked Florida over Notre Dame and Stanford, among others, and reports 37 scholarship offers all total.

Gator Country’s Phillip Heilman and Andrew Spivey contributed to this report.
