Florida Gators recruiting reaction to Randy Shannon promotion

Florida Gators head coach Jim McElwain made news on Friday morning by announcing Randy Shannon as the Gators new defensive coordinator.

Shannon is a name that recruits love and respect so, as you can imagine, it was met with positive reactions in our Florida Gators recruiting reaction piece.

Gator Country asked the Gators defensive commits and targets for their reaction and here’s what they said about Shannon getting promoted.

Gators defensive end commit Zach Carter-“I can’t wait to play for Coach Shannon. He’s a great guy.”

Linebacker Levi Jones-“I like the hire, he deserves it.”

Jones also said this during the Under Armour week when asked about Shannon getting the job. “It would be awesome if he got the defensive coordinator position and it would help for sure because it would show that he’s in a secure spot.”

2019 defensive tackle commit Jaquaze Sorrells-“I’m happy, we just got to continue to get the best of the best defensive players.”

Defensive line target LaBryan Ray-“Well I think it’s a good hire. He did very well in the bowl game with a short period of time due to the departure. That’s good for him too.”

Defensive tackle Elijah Conliffe (6-4, 305, Hampton, VA. High) –“He’s tough. That’s a great hire.”
