Florida after another cornerback from the Wilson family

2017 cornerback Marco Wilson (5-11, 165, Plantation, FL American Heritage) visited the Florida Gators this week as a brother to Gators cornerback Quincy Wilson, but he left as a prospect on the Florida recruiting board.

On Tuesday, before going to watch practice, Wilson was caught off guard by an offer from Florida’s head man.

“I was really excited and very happy to get the offer because Florida is a school I like,” Wilson said. “I was kind of surprised to get the offer, but coach [Jim] McElwain told me about the offer. He told me that I have a scholarship from the Florida Gators but it was kind of short because it was at the beginning of practice.”

Wilson spent most of Monday and then all of Tuesday and Wednesday watching practices and hanging around the football offices. That time spent included plenty of opportunity to speak with Jim McElwain.

“Coach McElwain is a nice guy, I enjoyed the trip,” Wilson said. “The practices were pretty good. This is actually the first practice I’ve ever seen but the practices were up-tempo and pretty fast. They looked really good.”

Of course, Wilson spent much of time his time watching his brother practice, which meant watching the Gators’ defense, and Wilson gave his seal of approval.

“The defense looked great,” Wilson said. “Seeing my brother out and everyone else out there, they were looking pretty good. They look like they are going to do pretty good this year on defense.”

Defensive coordinator Geoff Collins had a chance to talk one-on-one with Wilson during the three day visit and the conversation was mainly about how he plans to run his defense at Florida.

“I talked to the defensive coordinator for a little bit,” Wilson said. “He was just talking about the new defense and everything. He was just talking about how they were going to be doing things and how they were going to play their defensive backs.”

Despite having an older brother at Florida, Wilson says that no school sticks out to him at this point.

“I’m pretty young right now so I’m not sure which schools that I’m looking hard at right now,” Wilson said. “I’m just letting everything fall into place but I’m excited for the offer from Florida.”

INSIDERS TAKE: Wilson will not choose Florida just because of his brother but it will be because Florida is the best fit for him and his family at the time he chooses a school. Wilson is going to be a very good player when he reaches college though. Wilson’s father is involved in his recruitment to the extent that he won’t let Marco commit until he’s 100-percent sure where he will go. No flip-flopping in this family.
